GREYHOUND Photo Gallery
This is my greyhound Shelby, and me Lauren. I'm 7, Shelby is 5. Shelby loves squeaky toys, eating (anything and everything), sleeping, and running around and around the yard at high speed (though she never officially raced, as the rabbit was of no interest to her). Sometimes she runs with a toy which she tosses and picks up on the next go 'round and sometimes she just runs without playing until she's exhausted. Then she'll come back inside and lay down, sides heaving as she catches her breath, with her tongue hanging out and drool dripping on the carpet. It's quite a sight, but as yet we've been unable to adequately photograph it.
Shelby doesn't allow the other two girls (younger) to lay on her like this. She will growl and snap as a warning.
Shelby is best known around this house for her love of food. If she thinks you are not paying adequate attention to your plate, she helps herself. She has been known to steal loaves of bread and pieces of meat from the counter, partially eaten yogurts from the table, and even bananas from the counter top...she gnaws the peel open, eats the banana and leaves the peel in her kennel. If one of the girls leaves a bowl of cereal she licks up the remainder. Forget to cover the butter back up? You'll probably notice teeth marks or tongue grooves when you next try to butter your toast. Her best trick is carrying cups of milk by the handle. We've caught her several times taking the cup back to her kennel to lap up the milk inside. So far she has managed not to spill.
