We maintain a fleet of five balloons and can accommodate from two to thirty passengers. Our chase vehicles are four wheel drive Suburbans, the best suited for the rough terrain in the Sedona area
The balloons we use are certified to carry no more than seven passengers. Although this means we need three balloons to carry the same number of passengers as one of our competitors balloons we have found that most people prefer the intimacy offered by the smaller balloons.
We are one of only two hot air balloon companies permitted by the Sedona Ranger District of the Coconino National Forest to operate in the Sedona/Red Rock area and have been operating in this area for over thirty years.
We suggest long pants year round, sturdy, comfortable shoes, and layered clothing on top. Hats are very important in the summer months due to the radiant heat from the burners during takeoff. Keep in mind that it will be getting warmer as the morning progresses. Also, contrary to popular belief it will not be colder up in the balloon than on the ground. We advise as to seasonal dress when reservations are made.
We fly once a day, early in the morning, on a year round basis.
Because it is not possible to inflate hot air balloons in windy conditions, it is necessary to inflate and fly around sunrise. We are in the air for at least an hour, with the rough terrain, it may be necessary to fly longer. After landing, we have a champagne picnic for which we constantly receive rave reviews.
**There are other balloon companies that advertise in Sedona but DO NOT FLY THE SEDONA AREA. They will pick you up at your Sedona hotel, but you are then driven to a launch site south of Cottonwood. Although we understand their need to draw on the tourist pool in Sedona we do think they should make it clear where they fly, which they do not. ONLY NORTHERN LIGHT BALLOON EXPEDITIONS AND RED ROCK BALLOON have Forest Service permits on the Coconino National Forest, which covers the Sedona area.
